Associated "Press" Associations

AP now openly discusses the case of one of its Iraqi reporters who has been held for 5 months by the US military, captured in the company of insurgents. I suppose they think the time is ripe to come forward now, given the divisions on Capitol Hill on handling terror suspects. The AP has reviewed his work and found nothing wrong. Bomb-making materials were also found in his apartment. Via RCP. AP:
Military officials said Bilal Hussein, an Iraqi citizen, was being held for "imperative reasons of security" under United Nations resolutions.....
"We want the rule of law to prevail. He either needs to be charged or released. Indefinite detention is not acceptable," said Tom Curley, AP's president and chief executive officer. "We've come to the conclusion that this is unacceptable under Iraqi law, or Geneva Conventions, or any military procedure.
Bloggers had long questioned the subject, circumstances and timing of his photos, for which he had shared a Pulitzer Prize. Photos include posed pictures of terrorists holding guns to one hostage's head, who was later murdered. Michelle Malkin here.

And a note on AP's domestic behavior in the RCP blog just the other day.

UPDATE: US military has made a further statement that Bilal Hussein had "strong ties to known insurgents". Via Michelle Malkin.
