More on proposed Eminent Domain legislation

Tough opposition to reform in Illinois from the Illinois Municipal League...
A recent Tribune review of eminent domain filings in Cook, Kane, DuPage, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties shows that local governments have used eminent domain more than 250 times in the last five years to seize private property for economic development.
And in conjunction with the state's new legislation mandating
high density housing which overrides local zoning, initially introduced as the "Builders Appeal Act", small historic communities are under siege.

Legislation needs to tighten definition of blight and level the playing field for individual homeowners and small businesses fighting against well-connected and well-heeled developers.

Ah yes.....Illinois.
