For the Birds?

Bird flu continues to move from Asia west. There is a good roundup of opinion on whether this is something we should be worried about or not right now, and also some caution on getting the government over-involved in vaccine development and production decisions, which has resulted in shortages. From National Review online: "For the Birds or Sleeping with the Fishes" here.

From Crain's Chicago Business:
Illinois has agreed to let the federal government know by July 1 how many doses of antiviral treatment it wants to acquire as part of a national effort to build up emergency stockpiles in the event of a bird flu pandemic. The state and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, along with the city of Chicago, have reached a set of broad planning agreements and are set to sign them this afternoon at a widely attended “Pandemic Influenza Readiness Summit” in Rosemont.
Please don't leave it just to Governor Blagojevich or we'll end up with the arrival of the vaccine and wasted $$$$$$ after the threat has passed.
