A Little Denmark in Chicago

The Chicago contingent to support Denmark and free speech gathered in front of the Danish consulate at noon today, just off North Michigan Ave. It was a media event, but as best I could tell, no main stream media. Not a surprise, as they had not published the cartoons themselves.
I met bloggers I'd only known online, Bill Baar and Freedom Folks, and Andrew Marcus was there interviewing people on video. Link here. There was a young man who'd come on his day off from an insurance company. He'd learned about the rally at a left wing bookstore and had a copy of Don Quixote tucked under his arm. There was an older lady with a Buy Danish sign and a father with his bundled-up little one on his shoulders. More pix here.

And there were others of us, of varying middle age, but with lots of enthusiasm. Someone offered Danish butter cookies to the group. There were enough of us to spill halfway down the block. A cabbie started shouting angrily at a woman in the group. Later a semi- truck driver honked his horn in support.

A little bit of Denmark in Chicago.
