Charles Wheeler, a journalism professor at the University of Illinois at Springfield, called the ads deceitful.Exactly. And even if they were true, citing newspapers' stories as gospel is probably not the best way to win conservative voters, who maintain a healthy scepticism of the press.
"It strikes me that you are trying to use the newspapers' good name for your own purposes and misrepresenting what the newspaper actually reported," said Wheeler, a former longtime Statehouse reporter for the Sun-Times.

Oberweis Out of Bounds
Perennial candidate Jim Oberweis has resorted to creating fake newspaper headlines to attack Judy Baar Topinka in TV ads. In attempt to gain traction in a close GOP gubernatorial primary, Oberweis once again steps out of bounds in his campaign ads. The Tribune:
