Weasel Eyes and Worse

In case you missed it: George Will, via RCP:
Topinka speaks about her opponent with a Chicago vigor: He is "slick'' and "has little weasel eyes.'' He also has big liberal spending plans for the state (e.g., universal preschool) and for the private sector (a $7.50 minimum wage, $2.35 above the federal minimum). Although Blagojevich, 49, in his clear-sighted youth voted twice for Ronald Reagan, he has become a standard-issue contemporary Democrat whose base is the public employees unions. His creative accounting includes counting as current revenues some savings he forecasts in future pensions.
Topinka clarified her comment, meaning that the governor won't look her in the eye.

CBS2:Has some fun with the weasel eyes comment. Tip from Capitol Fax. Watch the video. Not a bad punch line.

And the Illinois Republican Project has a roundup of GOP efforts to block Blagojevich's going into yet more debt, linking to this from the Heartland Institute:
Republican lawmakers in Illinois are making group appearances around the state to discuss what they say may be the worst state government pension system in the country. With an unfunded liability of $38 billion--despite having borrowed more than $10 billion in 2003 to boost funding--Illinois has the largest unfunded pension liability in the nation. And continued deferrals of scheduled pension payments to use the funds in other areas of the budget are making the situation worse, according to Republican lawmakers in the state.
The Tribune today:
The question now is how long Blagojevich, Jones and Madigan will put up with headlines that say the three Democrats who control everything can't even get their own acts together enough to finish the budget deal.
A governor and a party who can't govern.
