Chicago's Route 66

Back when I worked in the Loop, at the Board of Trade and then the Sears Tower, from time to time a few of us would trek a few blocks west to have breakfast for lunch at Lou Mitchell's. Now they and Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket have been put on the National Register of Historic Places. Sun Times:
Both were established along historic Route 66 when the fabled road was a key transportation link between the Midwest and California. Known for huge portions of comfort foods, Lou Mitchell's opened in 1923, and its current building was completed in 1949. Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket began as a lunch counter in a gas station; its current home was built in 1946.
I sing in a small close-harmony women's group which performs at local nursing homes, and this year we took a little musical trip around the US, ending with "Route 66". One of the residents took great pleasure in sharing his memories and noted that the historic highway starts at Michigan and Jackson.

Why not hit the road and get your kicks on Route 66!
