Meeks May Announce

Continuing his measured steps toward announcing for governor, Illinois State Sen. and Rev. James Meeks dances around the question of whether he is really running.

He edged closer by confirming that he has chosen a full slate, which Illinois law requires, and he'll let us know who they are next week. Tribune here. Rich Miller has a column. Sun Times:
Meeks' political aspirations have become one of the most fascinating parlor games of Illinois politics, and his announcement suggests he is moving ever closer toward a November run against Gov. Blagojevich and Republican Judy Baar Topinka.

The well-known South Side pastor declined to divulge who he has secured for a ticket but indicated his running mate is not black. Associates said he was looking for a white, female Catholic to be his lieutenant governor candidate.

(My most recent post on Meeks here.) In case you're wondering, it's not me:)
