Wetland

It's been raining a lot lately and we seem to have attracted a confused visitor. The last time this happened a couple of mallards mistook us for a wetland, but this weekend saw the arrival of an American Bittern.

Perhaps it was attracted by the prospect of a small mammal for a meal. Our little spaniel, Rogue, inhabits our backyard.

I wasn't there, but the rest of my family scoured the online equivalent of the old bird book, and made the ID.

And after it escaped across the alley, my son caught a few photos of the bittern pretending to be a reed.

Or maybe a fence post or yard art around here.
