Mr. Soros, an early supporter, was the host of a fund-raiser during Mr. Obama’s campaign for the Senate in 2004, but he has not publicly committed to any candidate for the 2008 race, said Michael Vachon, an aide to Mr. Soros. Mr. Obama’s staff asked to use the Soros space for last night’s meetings since it was near the Midtown hotel where the senator spoke at a fund-raiser for K.I.D.S. (Kids in Distressed Situations), which assists children living in poverty. In his remarks to several hundred supporters of the charity, Mr. Obama recalled Robert F. Kennedy and the War on Poverty and said there was an “empathy deficit” in America that would close only when people imagined themselves in their poorer countrymen’s shoes.
An empathy deficit.
Well, since he continues to be such a power player in the Dem party, let's recall an interview with Mr. Soros, which the American Thinker drew our attention to on the eve of the election, conducted in 1998 with Steve Kroft on 60 Minutes. At the age of 14 Mr. Soros was hidden in plain sight as a Christian in Nazi-occupied Hungary, and accompanied his "godfather" on his rounds of confiscating property from Jews. Here is an excerpt (also a bit more here):
KROFT: No feeling of guilt?
Mr. SOROS: No.
KROFT: For example that, 'I'm Jewish and here I am, watching these people go. I could just as easily be there. I should be there.' None of that?
Mr. SOROS: Well, of course I c——I could be on the other side or I could be the one from whom the thing is being taken away. But there was no sense that I shouldn't be there, because that was——well, actually, in a funny way, it's just like in markets——that if I weren't there——of course, I wasn't doing it, but somebody else would——would——would be taking it away anyhow. And it was the——whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator, the property was being taken away. So the——I had no role in taking away that property. So I had no sense of guilt.
"I was only a spectator."
Sen. Obama should choose his friends more wisely. You can't claim the moral high ground if you are taking megabucks from someone who is so detached even now from one of the great moral horrors of our time.
UPDATE: Good rundown on Obama by veteran FoxNews political reporter Carl Cameron on Brit's show tonight. Footage of Obama, and of Rezko. Cameron points out that Barack Hussein Obama Jr. is the son of a Harvard Ph.D., and his mother has a Ph.D. as well--- a child of privilege, attending elite schools on his path to Harvard Law.
And so far Obama has not been a profile in courage in Illinois, supporting the corrupt Cook County president over a reformer in the Democrat primary, and lending his name to help elect a state treasurer with alleged mob ties.
As for being the new generation, this invocation of the Kennedys stamps him as not just a child of privilege, but a child of the 60's, which his liberal voting record bears out.
