Playing Politics

Steve Huntley, Sun Times asks some tough questions of the Civic Committee, which delayed its report on Illinois' dismal financial position until after the election, claiming "it didn't want the report to be seen as a political document":
This just doesn't wash. The report by its very nature of tackling tough issues is a political document. Worse, this argument reflects a troubling tendency among elites -- and the Commercial Club is nothing if not elite -- to distrust the voters to sort out difficult issues, especially those that may involve increasing taxes.
The committee proposes raising the personal income tax, corporate income tax, and the sales tax.

And it just illustrates the widespread abdication of responsibility by leaders in Illinois.
