Invasion of Privacy

Right now there is a bill pending in the Illinois Senate to require 11 and 12 year old girls to be immunized for sexually transmitted human papilloma virus which leads to cervical cancer. I agree with the Sun Times:
We think this vaccine is an important medical advance. Still, we believe parents, some of whom may have to pay $120 per shot, should be making this choice. This type of decision is best left to parents after talking to the doctor. State-mandated vaccinations should be limited to preventing diseases caused by casual contact.
And as it stands now, even those have a dispensation for religious beliefs. And abstinence would work in this case.

Liberals like to tell us they are against invading our privacy, but fervently pursue the nanny state when it suits their interests.

UPDATE: Trib editorial here. The editorial points out the bill has exemptions for medical and religious reasons. That's good. The Trib says adoption of the bill would be premature. The Trib goes on further to suggest that most parents should want this vaccine for their child. Does the Tribune think most parents think it's OK for their child to be having a little premature sex?
