Happy 40th to The American Spectator

R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. in the WSJ on the 40th anniversary of his publication, The American Spectator. I've been reading it regularly for about 20. Last night I went to their celebratory dinner in DC--"40 years championing the values of a free society".
Tom Wolfe reminded us of how instrumental The Spectator was in the fall of Bill Clinton, citing their piece, His Cheatin' Heart: "Living With the Clintons: Bill's Arkansas bodyguards tell the story the press missed.", Jan. 1994. The Spectator told the story no one else would. No Woodward and Bernstein-like accolades from the MSM then or now. (And the Clintons were vindictive, but The Spectator survived and is flourishing.)

The good and brilliant Dr. Charles Krauthammer graciously accepted the Barbara Olson Award for Excellence and Independence in Journalism. Yes, I went up and shook his hand afterward.

Happy 40th, and many more.
