NoPhoneTax.com

Finally got to this. From my fellow blogger, Yellow Dog Democrat on No PhoneTax.com:

On Wednesday, I blogged about a new Netroots effort to oppose one of Stroger's tax increases over on Illinoize.

Just two days ago, NoPhoneTax.org had received over 62,000 hits. Today, it will pass 75,000 hits and is poised to reach 80,000.

This is the largest, fastest growing Netroots effort I've seen in Illinois. To put it in perspective, a statewide effort by the GOP to gather signatures for Rod Blagojevich's recall had just a few thousand signatures, last time I checked.

Clearly, alot of folks are angry about a $48 a year tax on every cell phone, land line, internet line, etc., averaging $240 per family (according to the Citizens Utility Board). The phone tax is Todd Stroger's Plan B if (when) the County Board rejects or reduces his 2% sales tax increase.

The overwhelming response reflects not only opposition to the phone tax, but also a deep opposition to handing over any more money to Cook County government.
