Illinois Coalition for Jobs, Growth and Prosperity is suing
Governor Zamboni to enforce oversight over the executive branch of Illinois.
Tribune:
A business group headed by leading Republicans is suing the Blagojevich administration to try to block a broad expansion of a state health insurance program the governor has continued despite rejection by a bipartisan panel of lawmakers.
This is an effort to put teeth into the oversight panel the governor had advocated for in the past himself:
This is the first time, lawmakers note, that Blagojevich has disregarded an action by the 12-member panel, which he strengthened several years ago by giving it the power to permanently block rules sought by the administration.
Sounds like the coalition lawsuit has bipartisan support as well:
Rep. John Fritchey (D-Chicago), who serves on the legislative oversight board, said the panel is an important check on executive authority.
If the courts uphold Blagojevich's action, Fritchey said, the legislature "is going to have to become micro-managers of agency operations, and I don't know if that is in anybody's best interests."
The governor's official response?:
Ottenhoff said the administration's track record of obeying the panel's rulings is "irrelevant" and insisted that the panel's votes on rules are merely advisory.
So should we all become scofflaws like the governor? Should we ignore our tax bills? Governor Lawless.
