Huckabee's Hutzpah

More UPDATES below. UPDATE: Negative push polls in Iowa by Huckabee raising the question (HotAir wonders) of whether he was also behind the anti-Mormon (and illegal anonymous) calls in New Hampshire.

I posted about Tax Hike for Christ Mike Huckabee just yesterday. My friend Jason Bonham alerts me to this:

In a speech at Liberty University, Huckabee makes the case that Divine Intervention favors the Baptists:

Mr. Huckabee also said that Divine providence was responsible for his recent surge in the polls in Iowa, as he noted that he is the candidate with much less capital firepower than his rivals. Despite his fundraising shortfall, his message seems to be resonating with voters.

More with comments here.

P.S. Rudy's not the only one who gets phone calls during speeches. He gets them from his current wife--Huckabee apparently gets them from God. Video:
UPDATE: Gov. Romney, who downplays his religion, has finally decided to give a speech on the subject this Thursday. AP:
How he should deal with questions about his faith has divided his campaign advisers.

Some advisers had suggested that he give the speech touching on his beliefs and clarifying the impact of his faith on his governmental decisionmaking. Those advisers privately said that Romney would benefit from such a speech because Mormons pride themselves on the separation of church and state, as well as a tolerance for all religions.

UPDATE: Huckabee, incredibly claims the mantle of Ronald Reagan as justification for raising taxes. Look, Reagan wasn't perfect, but he had a very different attitude toward government than Huckabee has evidenced. Reagan was slogging uphill against a Democrat Congress of 30 years. No one claiming to be a conservative these days can defend raising taxes. That is the one conservative litmus test. The Swamp with details, also comments from readers on his soft on crime record.
