Reid Wilson, Politics Nation, "Kirk Faces Tough Fight". It's a repeat of the last go-round, when the war was a big issue--it's not now, given the success of the surge, though national security still will be, especially for those of us concerned about Israel as well as the US. Kirk withstood the big Dem wave last time and is likely to do so this time as well. Taxes continue to be a concern in the district as both Obama and Hillary promise huge spending and tax increases, especially given the Dems' raising them right and left in Illinois.
The candidacy of John McCain on the Republican side will only help Kirk, as his independent nature speaks to the independence of the 10th district.
UPDATE: More on the McCain appeal at RCP Blog. And related Trib story on the battle over Great Lakes water. Also this idea on Iran, as Kirk has been a leader on trying a Third Way on this issue.
