Who Gets the Girl?

Ah, well, it's the silly season. Film-classically political, but there's something there. Back in December, George Will compares Obama to Fred Astaire. Lately, Uncorrelated:
Will we love him in the morning?: The general election between McCain and Obama will be very interesting on several levels.

# Charm. This is a contrast between Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. Astaire was elegant, graceful, cool. Kelly was powerful, dynamic and passionate. Astaire danced "high", while Kelly danced "low". Both were fine dancers with different styles and one can appreciate the one without taking anything away from the other. The U.S. is a "Gene Kelly" kind of country and I give McCain the edge among the general electorate.
Yeah. Who gets the girl in Astaire v. Kelly? Do you have to ask? Don't you know nothin'? Irreverent but firm when it counts.

A refresher on Gene's appeal:And Barack may be Victor Lazlo (though we know Victor Lazlo, and Obama's no Lazlo)... but who really gets the girl. I can't believe we're that vacuously multiculti--who defends real multiculti tolerance (hopefully on the way to the melting pot) anyway, hmm?: Cafe Americain. Yes we McCain.

Most Americans still don't drink Vichy water. And still say "nuts!" to terror. My dad was captured in the Bulge, a young POW, escaped, captured again, survived the war, went home and raised a family. My mom rolled bandages, studied, and worked as a reporter. They met after the war.

The American way, still today. The 9/11 generation now.

Casablanca used to be a liberal icon on campus. I doubt liberals show it much there any more.
