A federal judge has ruled that a 1995 state law that prohibits minors from obtaining abortions without notifying a parent remains unconstitutional, despite the Illinois Supreme Court's effort to fix it.The law has been on the books for over a decade, but not enforced--that's legal limbo. And those aborted babies are not in legal limbo, they're dead. Finally, it is beyond belief that the state puts minors' health at risk by not informing their parents of a risky abortion, when schools can't give kids an aspirin without parents' permission.
U.S. District Judge David Coar last week refused to lift a federal court order that has blocked the notification law from taking effect, saying the law would place some minors in "legal limbo."
The ball is in Attorney General Lisa Madigan's court now. Show your mettle Lisa.
