WHAT IS HE HIDING? NATIONAL SHOCK AT
SCHOENBERG'S POSITION ON SEX ED
Jeff Schoenberg Co-Sponsored SB99 in 2003 to Mandate Sex Ed in Kindergarten;
Ducks Media Inquiries
KENILWORTH, IL - Sharing alarm with families across the nation, 9th District State Senate Candidate Brendan Appel called on State Senator Jeff Schoenberg to respond to media inquires as to why he co-sponsored Senate Bill 99 in 2003, which mandated that sexual education be taught as early as Kindergarten.
"Why Jeff Schoenberg chose to be a chief co-sponsor of this bill is beyond me," said Appel. "Apparently, he is not open to discussing it with either the national media or the families in our district." Schoenberg recently refused to comment on his role as a chief co-sponsor of SB99, when contacted by National Review White House Correspondent Byron York. The article citing his refusal to respond appeared on September 16, 2008.
"Outrageously, Jeff Schoenberg thought it would be good public policy to mandate teaching sexual education to children in Kindergarten. As the father of two young daughters, this is exceedingly inappropriate and Senator Schoenberg needs to come clean as to why he would do such a thing," said Appel.
SB 99 was introduced in the Senate in January, 2003. On February 28, 2003, Jeff Schoenberg added himself as a Chief Co-Sponsor to the legislation. "Jeff Schoenberg apparently feels that he knows what is better for our children's education than we do. If nothing else, he owes an explanation to the families of the 9th District."
The 9th Senate District includes all of Evanston, Golf, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette, and Winnetka; along with parts of Chicago (Rogers Park), Glencoe, Glenview, Morton Grove, Northbrook, and Skokie.
Brendan Appel, a successful local attorney, husband and father, resides with his wife, Doris, and their two daughters in Glenview.
