APPEL: Schoenberg vies for Dem dynasty rule

KENILWORTH, IL - Republican Senate candidate Brendan Appel says the fact that State Senator Jeff Schoenberg is battling among fellow Democrats to succeed Senator Emil Jones as the Senate’s next ruler should clearly define to 9th District voters why their Democratic incumbent should be ousted this November. Schoenberg wants his line in Illinois’ ruling Democratic dynasty.

Having chaired the Senate’s powerful Appropriations Committee for several years, Schoenberg, rated by Illinois conservative group United Republican Fund as one of the Senate’s most liberal members, wants to reign over the Senate.

Appel said Monday being a state senator is about serving the people of his district, not himself.

“With Illinois Senate President Emil Jones announcing his retirement, a new succession battle has started for Jones’ position,” a press release from Appel’s campaign office said on Monday.

“The battle among Senate Democrats,” Appel’s campaign said, “includes a nepotistic power grab for his senate seat by his son, Emil Jones III, and for the Senate Presidency by his protégé, Jeff Schoenberg.”

“As Illinois tries to turn the page on pay to play politics with the retirement of Emil Jones, his protégé, Jeff Schoenberg, is waiting in the wings,” said Appel. “The fact that my opponent believes he should be Senate President just illustrates his true involvement in the culture of corruption that plagues our state. Going to Springfield is about serving the people, not yourself.”

The 9th Senate District includes all of Evanston, Golf, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette, and Winnetka; along with parts of Chicago (Rogers Park), Glencoe, Glenview, Morton Grove, Northbrook, and Skokie.

Brendan Appel, a successful local attorney, husband and father, resides with his wife, Doris, and their two daughters in Glenview.
