The last two cabinet nominees would demand Oprah's soothing words and Obama's charisma to overcome a U.S. Senate confirmation hurdle: Tony Rezko for secretary of treasury and William Ayers for homeland security. Both Rezko and Ayers have had their own trouble with the law, and actually Rezko already spending time in federal prison could be a plus. After all, there is a growing number of imprisoned or formerly imprisoned political figures who have gone on to become history makers.Yesterday Judge Amy St. Eve froze more than $100,000 of Rezko's assets, indicating he might have to forfeit them for his role in orchestrating political corruption. Rezko has been quietly talking to the Feds and is expected to be sentenced a week before the election. Most of the onus is on the Governor, but Obama has a few worries too. More from Eaton on Ayers:
And for homeland security secretary, whose job is to protect America from another terrorist attack, who better than a reformed terrorist? Indeed, a fellow Chicagoan deeply involved in teaching radical liberalism to students as a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Ayers held one of Obama's first senate campaign fundraisers in his home.
Only regretting that his 1970s Weatherman movement didn't "bomb more," Ayers will have unique insight into the mind of terrorists and will be able to call on former Weatherman comrade Mark Rudd, who went underground after a bombing killed three of his and Ayers' associates during the Weathermen's heyday. Rudd recently re-emerged as a signatory to "Progressives for Obama," a group committed to holding Obama tight to the left in his Iraqi War and environmental policy.
And Washington may have another Obamessiah cross to bear--if Obama wins who will our failed "indict or impeach" Governor appoint to his Senate seat? Lots of Chicago thugs to choose from by one of the biggest.
