Blago own close personal friend

Governor Blago is so lonely. Fortunately he is his own close personal friend, and he drags your children into it. (Again) Press conference:

Blagojevich also asked the people of Illinois for patience.

"Afford me the same rights that you and your children have. The presumption of innocence.

"The right to defend yourself," he said. "Now I know there are some powerful forces arrayed against me. It's kind of lonely right now. But I have on my side the most powerful ally there is: the truth. Besides, I have the personal knowledge that I have not done anything wrong."

Yeah, this guy knows the truth when he sees it. Oh, and he's fighting for you, uh himself:

Gov. Rod Blagojevich said today he "has done nothing wrong" and will not resign in the face of federal corruption charges.

"I will fight. I will fight. I will fight until I take my last breath," he said. "And I'm not going to quit a job that people hired me to do because of false accusations and a political lynch mob."

His lawyers field questions--they "don't know" if he'll appoint anyone to the Senate seat or not.

Democrat "leaders" need to step up. Where's the "people's lawyer", as she has described herself, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who was so vocal in favor of a special election to let the people decide?

Statement from the Illinois GOP:
Statement from Illinois Republican Party Chairman Andy McKenna on Blagojevich's first public remarks since arrest

Anything short of resignation today from the Governor was unacceptable.

For the good of the people, Rod Blagojevich should resign from office immediately and spare voters any more heartache than he's already caused.

"Illinois voters have lost faith that Blagojevich Democrats are going to do the right thing, which is why we called on Lisa Madigan to demand the legislature convene and strip Rod Blagojevich of his senate appointment powers and give a vote to the people."
Illinois State Senator Matt Murphy, Palatine, has proposed a bill pending in the senate, 3079, Senate GOP Leader-elect Christine Radogno 3080. When asked by the media about the cost of a special election, Murphy and others pointed out that the governor's corrupt behavior cost us $20 million just in one day due to the state's financial standing being downgraded. Murphy estimated the cost at less than $20 million, due to Chicago having no April municipal election, but outside of Chicago it would be minimal. Then again, Rahm Emanuel's seat will be up for a special election, which covers a significant part of the city, so that cost is there anyway.

But this is really beside the point. Illinois voters deserve a choice, deserve a vote for a U.S. Senator they can be proud of. Two thirds of Illinois voters want a special election.

We don't need some pol appointing another close, personal friend in some pay to play deal.

P.S. Oh, and yeah. For a special treat, poetry. Kipling no less. Not Gunga Din.
