Wilmette Crime Alert

The Wilmette Police Department is reporting on a strong armed robbery at Wilmette Commons Saturday at 6:15 pm and a home invasion Sunday on Sunset in the 400 block at 10 pm. Details:
Wilmette Commons--
On Saturday, December 27th, at 6:15pm a 47 year old female resident of Wilmette was the victim of a robbery at the Wilmette Commons Shopping Center at 50 Skokie Blvd in Wilmette. The victim had just left a nail salon located in the plaza and was walking to her car when she was knocked down from behind and battered. The offender removed a ring that the victim was wearing before fleeing south bound into the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex.

The Wilmette & Skokie Police Departments utilized a canine from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police to conduct a search of the area around the apartment complex but were unsuccessful in locating the offender.

The offender was described as an African American male in his late 20’s early 30’s. He was last seen wearing a white & red baseball hat and a dark jacket.

Home Invasion--
At approximately 9:30pm, 5 to 6 subjects armed with handguns forced their way into the home where they bound a 46 year old male and his 13 year old son with duct tape.

The offenders removed over $2,000 of USC and electronic equipment from the home.

After the offenders had left, the son was able to free himself and contact the Wilmette Police.

The offenders were described as male Asians in their 20’s.

Evidence suggests that the family was specifically targeted and that this was not a random act. Solving this case is a priority for the Wilmette Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wilmette Police at 847-256-1200.
