No wonder Senator Christopher Dodd (D-Conn) went wobbly last week when asked about his February amendment ratifying hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses to executives at insurance giant AIG. Dodd has been one of the company's favorite recipients of campaign contributions. But it turns out that Senator Dodd's wife has also benefited from past connections to AIG as well. She was an outside director. Very useful work I'm sure, given the results. But let's not forget, she was probably hired to insulate the company from political risk. (Much as our President Barack Obama's better half was, hmm?) So remember, when Washington (or the South Side of Chicago) roars, their victims often hire lobbyists, or relatives, to protect themselves.
Latest to hire lobbyists--the NFL. Wonder if it had something to do with that Scrappleface spoof. It doesn't take much imagination these days. And it's somehow not very funny.
Washington--back off, or we'll all have to get ourselves a lobbyist if we have any private property left to protect. Are our representatives representing our interests? We used to call this a democracy, but it seems more and more a kleptocracy. Like Illinois. We warned you America.
