GOP Statement on Blago

From the Illinois GOP:

Statement from Illinois Republican Party Chairman Andy McKenna on the indictment of Rod Blagojevich

“Today’s indictment opens another tragic chapter in the national embarrassment Blagojevich Democrats have brought on the people of Illinois.

"In 2002, when Democrats came to power, we were promised this day would never happen again, but today's indictment coupled with their decision to support Rod Blagojevich for six years proves those promises were merely empty rhetoric in order to obtain and keep political power.

"Democrats reinforced their empty rhetoric in 2006 when, despite knowing Rod Blagojevich was under federal investigation and had committed numerous offenses for which he was later impeached, they chose to endorse and actively support his re-election.

“Over the last six years Democrats have endorsed and enabled Rod Blagojevich every step of the way by increasing spending a billion dollars a year, allowing the appointment of a tainted US Senator, refusing to pass a special election, and now they expect the hardworking men and women of this state to bail out their mismanagement with a massive, job-killing tax hike.

“This is another sad day in our state’s history, but Republicans are ready to bring change and reform to government and are fighting to bring a new beginning for the people of Illinois.”
