CHICAGO – The Illinois Republican Party is calling on both Attorney General Lisa Madigan and House Speaker Michael Madigan to fully explain to the people of Illinois what, if any, involvement they had in Rod Blagojevich seeking to name a Senate replacement in exchange for concessions on Blagojevich’s pet projects.

“These revelations raise a number of very serious questions that both General Madigan and Speaker Madigan need to answer,” said ILGOP Spokesman Lance Trover. “Since Lisa Madigan has made clear her ambitions to seek higher office, this is an issue that must be addressed before she begins any future political campaigns.”

The Associated Press reports that Governor Rod Blagojevich told U.S. Senator Dick Durbin that he was considering appointing Attorney General Madigan to the seat previously held by President Barack Obama in exchange for House Speaker Madigan making concessions in the legislature on Blagojevich’s pet projects.

“Voters deserve to know the extent of any involvement by the Attorney General and Speaker in what has become one of the largest public corruption investigations in Illinois history,” said Trover.
