The Doctor Tax

This reminds me of the freshman World History teacher at New Trier High School, Winnetka, IL. who chose to editorialize to a captive group of parents on curriculum night. She suggested school custodians should be paid as much as teachers. Everyone listened respectfully, including me, but I thought, as I'm sure others did--should teachers be paid what custodians make?

Perhaps this teacher. Because if she's lecturing our kids with this kind of stupidity why would they be motivated to study? Why try to improve themselves? Forget about being able to travel around the world and see traces of the history you've only ever read about. What's the point of spending years (and thousands of dollars on medical school) mastering the intricacies of medicine that could save people's lives?

One of my friends had brain surgery--successful, thankfully. The surgeon was the husband of a friend. That's a lot of responsibility. It should be compensated.
