P.S. GOP solutions website. And via the Instapundit, Cato:
Well, I was at choir practice, so I just caught the end of his speech, then watched some clips. He looked to me to be angry and lecturing--it made me feel uncooperative. I hope that's not unpatriotic. Instapundit kicker:And from the Cato commenters: “If we spend more than other countries, and aren’t any healthier, why does the president want us to spend another $2 trillion?”
ANOTHER UPDATE: Conclusion at Cato: “Strikingly political/partisan rather than statesmanlike speech. Obama chose to pressure Republicans to support his plan rather than attempt to persuade them to do so. He risks a another wave of (effective) opposition from conservative talk radio & cable TV.”
My question: Is America ready to believe that a politician from Chicago will eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse?BarackObamaPresident Obama: "I still believe we can do great things, and that here and now we will meet history’s test." #hc09
AP goes wobbly.
mkhammerMy bro @sikesham was, oddly enough, in a Dr. waiting rm watching O's speech next to an 8-yr-old kid tonight, who said: "Another speech!?!?!"
mkhammerThe 8-yr-old continued in astonishment: "Is this the last one?!? Didn't he just have one?!?" #Obama
mkhammerI just thought that was hilarious. So funny it sounds faked, but it's not! Even 8-yr-olds know he's over-exposed. #Obama
Mickey Kaus:
“Why, after posing as a practical moderate, go on and on about the need to avoid timidity and do ‘what the moment calls for’ and ‘history’s test.’ Obama couldn’t let a speech slip by without veering into grandiosity–but this very grandiosity undercuts his attempt to appear like a reassuring, centrist who wants to disrupt existing arrangements as little as possible,. Makes kicking the can ‘further down the road’ suddenly seem vaguely appealing.”
