Alexi Gets Flak from Mike Madigan

Illinois Dem Senate candidate Giannoulias the recipient of scorn again, this time from one of his own. Clout St:

Powerful Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan today had a bit of a chuckle at the expense of Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Alexi Giannoulias.

Asked if the problems at the Giannoulias family-owned Broadway Bank would affect the candidate's voter support in the Senate race, Madigan replied, “I’m glad I don’t have any deposits there.”

Federal regulators have said the bank must be recapitalized or it could face a takeover this month. Giannoulias had touted his banking expertise in running for treasurer in 2006 in winning office and defeating a candidate in the primary who was backed by both Madigan and the Illinois Democratic Party.

Well, Speaker Madigan, I wish I didn't have so much sunk into the state of Illinois, as a taxpayer.

Madigan goes on to blast back at another Dem for delays in property tax bills, telling him to take responsibility and be a man...

...I could go on.

P.S. Kass weighs in. A Rezko reminder. And will media darling reformer Sir Forrest Claypool, Mayor Daley's former chief of staff "when so many kinky deals went down" stick with his announced independent run for Cook County assessor or agree to run for Senate in Alexi's stead.

As far as I'm concerned, if the Dems dump Alexi, any Dem would be tainted by the process. The whole thing would rake up the Bleepin Golden Blago/Burris fiasco, (not to mention the Scott Lee Cohen/Sheila Simon black eye), which Dems like Madigan and Sen. Dick Durbin allowed to happen. And of course, how did Gov. Quinn get his slot? At least Alexi won the Dem primary in a legitimate election. As far as we know. Which does not inspire confidence in these Dems either.

Throw all the Dem bums out. In an election this November.

P.P.S. Construction has started on a teardown across the alley. I can hear the drill now. Is this a conspiracy? Sigh. Ah well, a good sign of some economic activity.
