More. Background: Breaking down how Joe Walsh turned tide vs. Melissa Bean- Northwest Herald

I think it was the Polar Plunge that was key.

Another winner giving us more of a newly earned lead in the Illinois Congressional delegation. Too bad the state remains mired with the Dems in the state govt.

...So, I take great pride in my posts--you can't go home again as Congresswoman, Melissa Bean.

Bean's $25 Million Earmarks in 2010, Rep Melissa Bean IL8 Sends in the thug, Unclean Melissa Bean, Walsh: Melissa Bean, Math Challenged, You can't come home again, Melissa Bean, Meli$$a Bean'$ Co$tly $cheme, Melissa Bean Meets Constituents in Noisy Grocery Store, Melissa Bean Still Clutching Dirty Rangel $$$

And frankly, Joe Walsh ran with guts and wit. And earned some staunch supporters.

UPDATE: Bean concedes.

Walsh Defeats Melissa Bean!

(Palatine, Illinois) - The final numbers are in for the 8th Congressional District race, putting Republican Joe Walsh (R) on top by 290 votes. Election officials in Cook, Lake and McHenry counties released vote totals that show Walsh has 98,115 votes, compared with Bean's 97,825.*

This is a huge win for all the grassroot organizations that supported Walsh. Against all odds we defeated incumbent Melissa Bean (D) who had significantly more money and media support. This will be the upset of 2010.

We have heard Melissa Bean (D) will fly back to the district for a Wednesday press conference at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield-Schaumburg to discuss the results.

It is time to close one chapter and begin a new one in the Illinois 8th Congressional District.

Walsh statement: Dear Friends:

I'm pleased that the decision of the people of the 8th District voting on November 2nd has been confirmed. Representative Bean telephoned me earlier this evening and congratulated me for winning the 8th District seat in the United States House of Representatives. I am grateful to each and every individual who cast their ballot for me, and for all of the thousands of volunteers, Tea Party members, regular Republicans, friends and staff people that have made this victory possible. I congratulate Representative Bean on her vigorous campaign and thank her for her six years of public service.

With the voting and counting now complete, we can turn all of our energies to advancing the legislative agenda the people of the 8th District have told me to pursue: more responsive government, less borrowing against our children's future, and a common sense approach to deal with the economic challenges facing our country. I will be busy here in Washington for several more days before returning to Illinois to personally thank all those who worked so hard to send me to Congress.

We have a lot to do, and I am eager to get at it.

Joe Walsh

Congressman-elect for Illinois' 8th District
