Brady Gets A on Tax Relief

Sen. Bill Brady, the GOP Candidate for Governor gets the top mark for tax relief from the Illinois Policy Institute. Via Greg at Illinoize:
Bill Brady: A
Jim Oberweis: A-
Rod Blagojevich: B-
Ron Gidwitz: C+

Edwin Eisendrath: F
From the Institute's Analysis:
Thus far, only two gubernatorial candidates in the Republican primary, dairy owner Jim Oberweis and state senator Bill Brady, have vowed not to raise taxes if elected. Both candidates are vying for the fiscal conservative vote, and have made responsible government the centerpiece of their respective campaigns. Accordingly, both Oberweis and Brady have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, a pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform, whereby candidates commit themselves to “oppose and veto any and all efforts to increase taxes.” [5] .....

In recent days, Sen. Brady has proposed a property tax relief plan, as well as a repeal of the state tax on motor fuel. More specifically, Brady proposes giving 10 percent of all natural revenue growth back to the various counties in order to “reduce the portion of the real estate taxes used to support local elementary and secondary schools.” Additionally, Brady has proposed ending “the state’s double taxation on motor fuel,” by reducing the burden from 6.25 percent to a mere 1.25 percent.

Oberweis, on the other hand, has pledged not to increase taxes, but has not provided such detailed policy initiatives for relieving tax burdens on the people of Illinois.
Brady also did an excellent job in the debate last night, reiterating his consistent track record on tax relief and job growth, and said he had run a positive campaign based on conservative values to unite the Republican party and rebuild Illinois.
