Governor Blagojevich has finally spoken up on his Hate Commission, which has seen 5 members resign due to failure of one of its members to disavow anti-Semitic remarks by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. Sister Claudette Marie Muhammad is minister of protocol for NOI, and has claimed she is the real victim here. See my earlier post here. The Sun Times:
The governor goes on to blame the media for "fanning the flames" and says "I'm not going to get brought into this divisive kind of stuff that some of you guys want to do when instead my role is to bring people together."Short on details but long on anger toward his critics, Gov. Blagojevich vowed Thursday to personally lead "a meaningful dialogue" among black, Jewish and gay leaders in hopes of defusing a heated controversy embroiling his anti-discrimination panel.
"What's happened at this commission raises a much bigger challenge that all of us have, and that is to try to bring communities and people together."
Ah yes, the governor is a uniter, not a divider, who has the big picture--- I guess his reelection support.
He just somehow can't see this big picture---by not asking for Sister Muhammad's resignation he is condoning bigoted remarks.
And by not disavowing them, he is responsible for them now himself.
