There is at least one witness that a big, black fuel tank was removed Tuesday. It was sitting on the old Ford property at 2 pm and was gone at 5 pm that day.
That would support the statement made to other people in the area who complained of fumes Tuesday and to me Wednesday morning by Wilmette's Community Development Plumbing Inspector Bob Silvus, that fuel tanks were removed. He also said that the State Fire Marshall was there and that permits had been obtained. Earlier posts here and here.
But the State Fire Marshall was not made aware of this until Thursday when they were called by the Wilmette Fire Dept, who had been contacted by the developers. Friday morning they noted 3 tanks in the ground and surrounding contamination. And they were told by whoever was on site that no tanks had been removed, and they were in the process of getting a permit.
Mr. Silvus, Wilmette Community Development Dept., has not yet returned my call to clarify, nor have I heard back from the developers, Mr. Kellogg or Mr. Pochter.
Again, please comment or email me at backyardconservative@gmail.com if anyone else saw the activity on Tuesday.
Calls from village employees are welcome. After all, probably the best view was from village hall.....unless you're looking the other way.
