Bush on Offense

The president is on offense, which is a very good thing as the fall election campaign intensifies post Labor Day. Washington Post story here, "President Shifts Argument, Catches Critics Off Guard":
By challenging Congress to immediately give the administration authority to try notorious al-Qaeda figures such as Khalid Sheik Mohammed by military commissions, he shifted the argument with Democratic critics of national security policies and competence. As Bush framed the choice, anyone against his proposal would be denying him necessary tools to protect American security.
Previous posts here and here. The Post article also refers to the new approach taken by White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten to take on Dem majority leader Harry (weak reed) Reid:
Bolten essentially said that most of Reid's suggestions for changing policy in Iraq were already being pursued by the administration.
Text of the letter here.

And then there is the recent delicious exchange between David Gregory (remember he was the Geraldo show's favorite reporter back in the Clinton years) and Tony Snow. Thankfully we have a savvy White House press secretary at such a critical time for our country.

UPDATE: And the posturing Dems are in action already, talking out of both sides of their mouth in record time. GOP Bloggers here.
