No Games with North Korea

Good proposal on North Korea by Jed Babbin, RCP, suggesting that we can not rely on the UN, China or Russia but the president should directly initiate enforcement measures by the Proliferation Security Initiative, PSI, which is comprised of 19 nations. The PSI successfully shut down Libya's nukes. Iran is of course watching how this all plays out.

Babbin also suggests Vice President Cheney be sent on a trip to the region, rather than Sec. of State Rice. This is our best chance to prevent a runaway round of nuclear proliferation, especially scary in the age of terror states such as Iran. And unless we disarm North Korea of its nukes, Japan will be forced to acquire them.

Democrats have suggested the US engage in bilateral talks with North Korea. But this failed under the Clinton administration, and lets China off the hook, the country with the most leverage with North Korea. The Chinese are already stalling..... Washington Times, RCP:
China in 2003 temporarily cut off oil shipments to North Korea, an action Beijing has refused to use again either to prevent the missile tests or the nuclear test.
.....we certainly don't need to give them a total pass.

Maybe we should remind them the Beijing Olympics are coming up soon and it is in their interest to resolve this quickly. Security preparations will hardly be "frugal" if crazy Kim Jong-Il has nukes to play games with.
