According to my friend who first told me about Room to Read, its founder John Wood will be on Oprah tomorrow. Wood lived in Chicago for some time, and has devoted himself the last several years to building this very worthwhile charity, dedicated to bringing books to children around the world. Watch if you can.
In his absorbing book, Wood tells us that one of the best ways to lift people from poverty is to educate girls, who then educate the next generation. Room to Read makes a special effort to ensure young girls have the opportunity to learn to read along with the boys. So make a donation if you can.
