Anti-Semitism and Stalinism

Poland refuses to go along with the Jew bashing of the EU. Gateway Pundit:
A pro-Palestinian conference is scheduled for the last days of August at the European Parliament. The organizer is the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People famous for its ant-Israeli attitude. Members of that group are i.e. Afghanistan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Tunisia and Turkey.

The topic of the conference is “Human rights violation by Israel military”. However there are scheduled working groups on “how to increase the resistance against Israel military”. The Israeli Foreign Office has submitted the protest against the conference. President of Knesset, Dalia Itzik, sent a letter to the President of EP, Hans-Gert Poettering. There is no official answer yet.
Meanwhile, the UN is planning a conference similar to that held in Durban in 2001, which was a hate-filled orgy of anti-Semitism and Death to America, a prelude to Sept. 11th. This conference will be headed by Iran, not known for its tolerance or moderation.

And in Putin's Russia, a further descent into Stalinism. Tribune:
One chilling account: Earlier this summer, Larisa Arap, an activist with former chess champion Garry Kasparov's movement opposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, co-wrote an article alleging abusive practices at local psychiatric clinics. When she visited a Murmansk clinic to pick up a routine medical certificate to renew a driver's license, a doctor called police and had her delivered to a local asylum. The apparent diagnosis: Opposing Putin. "One of the doctors asked whether I thought it was normal to write such things," Arap's daughter Taisiya said. "She said, 'It's not possible to write such things. It's forbidden.'" In other words, she must be crazy to write those things.

So now Arap languishes in a psychiatric facility, drugged and woozy.
Russia also holds joint war games with China. Iran also attended the exercise.

UPDATE: Lilia Shevtsova, The Telegraph:
Many Western observers see Russia's manoeuvrings as the direct result of it being ignored or humiliated by the West. This is a misconception.

The key reason behind the crisis is the failure of the post-Soviet liberal project and the return to a hyper-centralised state. In order to justify the about-turn, the political elite needs an enemy.
