Hillary's Tears

Giving Maureen Dowd a new lease on life--Hillary is not going away, "Can Hillary Cry Her Way Back to the White House?":
Another reporter joked: “That crying really seemed genuine. I’ll bet she spent hours thinking about it beforehand.” He added dryly: “Crying doesn’t usually work in campaigns. Only in relationships.”

Bill Clinton was known for biting his lip, but here was Hillary doing the Muskie. Certainly it was impressive that she could choke up and stay on message.[snip]

But there was a whiff of Nixonian self-pity about her choking up. What was moving her so deeply was her recognition that the country was failing to grasp how much it needs her.

Well, she may have cried her way out of a tight spot. What next? I shudder to think.

My play by play of Dem election night here, including Hillary's speech.

UPDATE: VDH makes several points, this being one:

(3) The slur against her was that she was an iron-lady automaton, without emotion; so she needed that tearful introspection; it was not like a quirky, psycho-dramatic Pat Schroeder crying 20 years ago, and thereby confirming what we suspected — that as a fragile personality, she was subject to wild mood swings and undue passions. Hillary’s quarter tear wasn’t the weepy Cowardly Lion serially breaking down, but an appreciated sad drop or two coming from the heartless Tin Man.
And he says it only works once. (Good zinger at the end for the press corps.)
