Liberal Misery

The liberal MSM predictably talking the economy down in an election year to benefit the Dem challengers. Now it's quantified, courtesy of John Lott:
Over 78 percent more negative news stories discussed a recession when the economy under a Republican was soaring than occurred under a Democrat when the economy was shrinking.

A little perspective on the economy would be helpful. The average unemployment rate during President Clinton was 5.2 percent. The average under President George W. Bush is just slightly below 5.2. The current unemployment rate is 4.8 percent, almost half a percentage point lower than these averages.

Of course if liberals ran everything, things would be peachy, right? Well, liberals are not noted for thinking things through, there are all those messy unintended consequences. And then there's that liberal laboratory of ideas, the most miserable city in America--Detroit, which lost industry and people and elected a Democrat mayor:

Detroit compounded them with disastrous governance, personified by Mayor Coleman Young, who held office for 20 years beginning in 1974.

His record raises the question why, if it wanted to engage in a nefarious plot to hurt blacks, the federal government would invent the AIDS virus when it could simply emplace mayors like Coleman Young instead. “Imagine a Rev. Jeremiah Wright with real power,” says urban expert Fred Siegel. Coleman taunted suburbanites, accusing them of “pillaging the city,” while his scandal-plagued administration managed the city into the ground.

(Imagine Barack Obama with real power? A guy who's never managed anything other than his own career?)

By the way, Michigan is trending McCain.
