Durbin's Deathbed Conversion

It's Dick Durbin's deathbed conversion. How long have you been in the Senate Dick? And only now you want to drill for oil in the US? Now that we're croaking on high gas prices, having to import 70% of our oil because you Democrats have been blocking drilling in major fields for 30 years!!!

Blocking nuclear power, blocking domestic refineries, blocking oil shale and offshore drilling far from our beaches for more than a generation! I grow old.

There should be a special circle in hell for you Dick Durbin.

And now you're only doing this to provide political cover for your baby-faced protege Barack Obama, not to mention CYA. (omg Congressional approval ratings are in single digits and I'm in the Dem leadership!):

Recent opinion polls have indicated strong public support for more domestic exploration. A Rasmussen Reports survey in June showed 67% of Americans support deepwater energy exploration -- with 64% expecting it will lower gas prices -- while a CNN poll published last week showed 73% of Americans favor more exploration of deep ocean energy resources far off U.S. shores.

Conservation alone will never be enough, unless you and Barack and Al want us all to live in shacks like Al's protégé the Unabomber. (Are you delusional too Dick?) Go ahead, Dick, make my day. Show some leadership, show some statesmanship. Get your fellow Dems in Congress to approve US drilling. And we don't want overtime on this--we want sudden death. We want your political games over. It's judgment day.
