Blagojevich has been dogged by the investigation for years. Documents released last week following the federal corruption conviction of Antoin "Tony" Rezko revealed that the governor has been interviewed "multiple times" by federal investigators in the probe, which involves allegations that he and members of his administration offered contracts and state work in exchange for campaign assistance. The Tribune subhead is "business as usual", which in Illinois means the pols line their pockets and pick ours while government is dysfunctional. He still has his friend, and Barack's, Senate President Emil Jones' pay raise in the budget--but there is still no budget, after months of the governor's no impact style of governance. And the Rockford Register Star reports this:
Asked Monday to what extent the investigation was having on his administration's day-to-day governing, Blagojevich said: "Absolutely not. There's no impact whatsoever."
Illinois’ unemployment rate jumped a full percentage point in May — 5.4 percent to 6.4 percent — for the largest one-month increase in more than 20 years. This is nothing for the governor to brag about, presumably why he takes refuge in meeting with preschoolers.
The national unemployment rate is 5.5 percent.
And it's no wonder Barack Obama apparently destroyed his Illinois legislative records. They wouldn't be pretty either. Meanwhile, their fundraiser friend Tony Rezko is still languishing in jail, awaiting his sentence.
