Let us explore the meaning of ACORN and its significance for Barack Obama. ACORN is a community organizing group and Barack Obama was one of its "community organizers". Jim Geraghty pegged it pretty well after Palin's speech contrasting Obama's with her experience as mayor:
Amazing to see the argument that "community organizers" all around America will rise up in defiance of Sarah Palin's speech.Sure enough, Al Sharpton is featured prominently on ACORN's home page, where they are once again heading voter registration drives, presumably fraught with fraud once again. The fraudulent change and phony hope of Barack Obama, doubtless targeting key swing states again. Missouri. And Missouri. Wisconsin. Ohio. Florida. New Mexico. Expect this effort to intensify given Obama's slump in the polls.
Perhaps there are parts of the country where mothers hope their children will grow up to be community organizers. The only "community organizer" I knew growing up was Al Sharpton's work in New York City, and he seemed to define his job as going into a bad situation and making sure it got worse, sometimes to the point of murderous arson.
If our friends on the other side of the aisle really want to get into an argument about that... role (I hesitate to call it a job)... Isn't there something inherently undemocratic about self-appointed "community organizers?" For most community leaders — mayors, city or town councilmen, school board members, city or county attorneys and prosecutors, even sheriffs and judges in some jurisdictions... if they fail to perform, they can be voted out of office.
UPDATE: U of I tipped off Obama on the Ayers Annenberg records. Gateway Pundit.
