Happy New Year Here

Feds file extension for Blago indictment, per Crain's. This is not unexpected as the initial timeline was too short, and this is good news:

In the motion filed Wednesday, prosecutors ask for more time because "multiple witnesses" have come forward in recent weeks and investigators have to review "thousands of intercepted phone calls."

Special election back up on the docket? Dems may speed up impeachment. ABC7. Sec. of State Jesse White may slow things down, refusing to certify, Tribune.

Wilmette Life, print edition, calls for Blago to get out "stop the madness"--points out the state's in a bad way--(better late than never I guess) to wit:
The state's budget deficit is now estimated at $2 billion, even after the governor's budget cuts of about $1.4 billion.

On top of that budget deficit, the state has a backlog of bills totaling $4 billion.
That's just the short term stuff. How can we forget our billions and billions in unfunded pension liabilities which these clowns keep punting on, and then there's the hold-up on capital expenditures as the Dems in Springfield can't agree on a plan--which will negatively impact the transportation dollars coming from the Feds.

Happy New Year, y'all.
