Dem Bums

So Illinois' new Sen. Roland Tombstone Burris suddenly realized he might be on tape, as the feds wanted to talk to him--so he decides to sort of set the record straight...in a quiet affidavit filed with the gubernatorial impeachment committee after the fact. State Sen. Barbara Flynn Currie's story has changed as well--how is it that she received the affidavit on Feb. 5th but we're only hearing about it this weekend? We read about it in the Sun Times.

Democrats in Illinois reneged on holding a special election after Blago was arrested, because they were afraid they might lose. U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald was so worried our Democrat governor might sell Barack Obama's Senate seat he went public. But Democrats were so concerned about holding on to their power that they were willing to take that risk, so they left the power in Blago's hands. He appointed Roland Burris. Now we learn Burris had several conversations with Blago's team and $10,000 was discussed.

Democrat leaders in the U.S. Senate decided to seat Burris, despite the taint of the Blago appointment, because Rep. Bobby Rush decided to play the race card. Burris was supposed to fully clear up any questions about his appointment in front of the Dem-run Illinois impeachment inquiry. Republican state Sen. Jim Durkin managed to ask Burris about his contacts with Blago's team, Burris was evasive, and now incredibly attempts to blame Durkin for not asking the right questions.

Liberal Sun Times columnist Mark Brown calls Burris a "lying little sneak".

Let's ask Sen. Dick Durbin, Illinois' senior U.S. senator and number two Dem leader what he thinks about this--oh, he's in Greece on an "economic development" boondoggle with Alexi Giannoulias, our state Treasurer. He's swanning around in Europe on our dime after rushing through a trillion dollar "emergency" bill he hasn't read, which passed with the help of a vote by our other Illinois Dem Senator--Roland Burris. A tainted Senator, a tainted vote, a suspect emergency.

Then there's our current governor, Patrick Quinn, Blago's Lt. Governor, who is puffing and posturing, setting up an ethics committee to clean up state politics. The Sun Times has a little tidbit on the bankruptcy of Tony Rezko's partner, Daniel Mahru. (Who owes money to at least two interesting people: • • A company owned by Nadhmi Auchi, the Iraq-born billionaire who took control of 62 acres in the South Loop that Rezko and Mahru hoped to develop. [snip]

• • John Thomas, a developer and FBI mole who helped authorities document the repeated visits former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and President Obama made to the offices where Rezko and Mahru ran their Rezmar Corp.)

And another story on the Blago holdovers in the administration. One of them is Jack Lavin, a good buddy of Gov. Quinn...and the felonious Tony Rezko. There's that economic opportunity again--for Democrat pay to play corruption. And with Senator Burris and the "stimulus" bill they have lots of pork to play with--and we'll be paying the price for years.

Can we throw the bums out? Can we clean up this state?

Somehow yes we can rings very hollow to me. Those Dear Leader license plates are cold comfort.

UPDATE: The Politico:
Senior aides to Reid and Durbin said the two leaders were reviewing the situation and only learned that Burris had submitted a new affidavit on Friday — nine days after he submitted it to state legislators.
Really?
State Rep. Jim Durkin, the impeachment committee’s ranking Republican and the state House’s GOP leader, Tom Cross, called on the senator to resign and sought a state investigation.

"Mr. Burris had every opportunity in the world to fully describe his relationship with the governor and the circumstances of his appointment, so I don't buy it," Durkin said at a news conference, according to press accounts.

Burris suggested anyone attacking him for the matter is simply “playing partisan politics” and skewered the news media for reporting “inconsistencies.”

"If you all report this correct, this is no story,” Burris said. “If you all report this correctly, this is the end of it."

But Democrats themselves are far from convinced that the story is over.

“Somebody is going to bring an ethics complaint against Roland Burris in the United States Senate,” said one Illinois Democratic insider. “How could you not? He took office under false pretenses.”
Really?
