Even the claim that Megrahi was released by the Scottish justice minister on purely "compassionate" grounds, independently of any pressure from ministers in London, now looks suspect: as we report today, the process seems to have involved an attempt to influence the three doctors who testified to his limited life expectancy. They were paid by the Libyan government, and were told by Libyan officials that it would be "helpful" if they were able to say that the prisoner had only three months left, as this was necessary to secure his freedom.UPDATE: Related here and here. Will they be eventually released too?
