News this week that former GOP chairman Andy McKenna did in fact authorize the use of Republican Party resources contributed by donors like you to conduct a $28,000 poll that benefited his campaign is a disgrace.
Mr. McKenna conceded broke the very ethics rules he worked to put in place when he was the Illinois Republican Party Chairman. He was dishonest when confronted about his role in sanctioning the poll, and now, he's asking voters to forget all that and accept his apology. I hope Illinois residents are equally as disappointed and outraged as I am at the Chicago-style politics-as- usual tactics by the McKenna campaign.
Mr. McKenna may be trying to fool the voters by running as the ultimate outsider in this election, but his actions were the work of an ultimate insider.
Sadly, Mr. McKenna is not the only candidate in this race involved in corrupt politics of the past.
Jim Ryan, another of my opponents, took $800,000 in campaign contributions from close friend Stuart Levine, all along claiming he didn't know Levine -- who was convicted in the Blagojevich scandal and now sits in prison -- was corrupt. Meanwhile, Kirk Dillard has yet to address the MSI contract that was re- negotiated when he was chief of staff and cost taxpayers millions of dollars.
These are perfect examples Chicago-style politics from which Illinois so desperately needs a clean break from. Next to jobs and taxes, ethics is of most importance to Illinois and its voters. Illinois needs a candidate who will fight corruption, not take part in it. We need a real Republican to win the nomination February 2nd, someone who is creditable and electable in the general election. Illinois deserves a candidate who represents all of Illinois, not just one corner of the state. I am that candidate.
Early voting starts Monday, January 11. I hope I can count on your vote to provide that clean break that will mean more jobs, restored integrity and a brighter future for the families of Illinois.
