Why Jews Hate Palin

Jennifer Rubin, Commentary Magazine. Turns out Gov. Palin was actually a Steve Forbes supporter. (Gee, what a hick)

I'd say Palin has made inroads with voters on healthcare. She changed the debate. And she was right.

My dear late dad and mom met in 1943, while both were in the Army, and were married in uniform in December of that year, in a Jewish ceremony at Fort Bliss, Texas. After their retirement they volunteered 10’s of 1,000’s of hours at the V.A. Hospital. They were Reagan democrats who, I believe, would’ve supported John McCain and Sarah Palin in the 2008 election, as I did.

My pious Jewish grandfather told my mother in 1952 that it was okay for me to participate, along with my second grade classmates, in a Christmas program at our public school because “we are living in a Christian country.” I’d like to think that he would’ve seen Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as a righteous gentile and an example of “The Virtuous Wife” of Proverbs 31. My little grandmother had named one of her own ten children Sarah. I can easily imagine that she would have embraced, literally hugged, Mrs. Palin, if she could’ve met her.

About 78% of Jews in the U.S. supported the Obama-Biden ticket in 2008. The reflexive liberalism of much of our American Jewish community bears further discussion. If my parents and grandparents were still alive, I don’t think they’d recognize today’s Democratic Party as the party of Harry Truman, Adlai Stevenson, or JFK that they knew. But I think they would’ve seen Sarah Palin as a hard-working, fair-minded, family-oriented, optimistic, woman who has gratitude for the opportunities in America and the freedom to pursue them. I believe they would’ve seen her as a kindred spirit, as I do.
