I've long thought of it as the warlord state.
I caught part of Mark Steyn, in for Rush, on the radio this afternoon. He spoke of the shame of the 7 story Ground Zero hole, a decade after 9/11 and of America the Beautiful as it was a century ago and is now.
The alabaster city gleaming was Chicago.
As Steyn noted, now it's known for Hyde Park-- Barack Obama, Bill Ayers, and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Oh, and Mayor Daley, and Blago.
