HHS: Catholics Should Only Care for Their Own?

This is one of the disturbing ramifications of her majesty the HHS Sibelius' ObamaCare ruling on birth control coverage--profoundly anti-religious:
In a statement in response to the move, Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, who is chairman of the pro-life office of the bishops’ conference in Washington, explained that “under the new rule our institutions would be free to act in accord with Catholic teaching on life and procreation only if they were to stop hiring and serving non-Catholics.”
He asked: “Could the federal government possibly intend to pressure Catholic institutions to cease providing health care, education and charitable services to the general public?  Health care reform should expand access to basic health care for all, not undermine that goal.”
The search for freedom of religion propelled families to risk all to come to this country and establish colonies. In later years and to this day, Catholic churches, schools and hospitals have been instrumental in caring for the minds, bodies, and spiritual needs of Americans, regardless of their religion.

Catholic institutions have been anchors in communities, some wracked by crime, poverty and cruel indifference.

To deny their heartfelt charity is to trample on the American spirit, and make this country a prison ship of  heartless big government.

I'm somewhat surprised that the Cardinal has to ask the question, “Could the federal government possibly intend to pressure Catholic institutions to cease providing health care, education and charitable services to the general public?...". Of course this administration could (and does) mean that. Obama & his minions are hell-bent on marginalizing all people of faith (as long as that faith is a form of traditional orthodox Christianity--black liberation, blame the Jews & Whitey churches are o.k., as are all other non-western religions, especially Islam). This president & his administration can only be described as EVIL. The really scary thing is that there are still well over 40% of the voters who moderately approve of this Obamanation.

I think the Cardinal is being diplomatic but your point remains strong.

The Catholic church should express itself more forcefully to have any chance of stopping this administration's brutish actions

Yes, the Catholic Church SHOULD be protesting this administration's actions much more forcefully. But, Catholics should not be in this fight alone....all other conservative Christian traditions should be standing shoulder to shoulder with them as well. A united Christian front opposing the awful and outrageous policies of this administration could work wonders. Without such a united front, I fear that freedom of conscience, as understood by the Founders (& many generations of Americans), will disappear.

A united front would be good
